Gov. Mark Sanford and the SC Department of Commerce honored Beneteau USA President Wayne Burdick as an Ambassador for Economic Development for 2007.

Each year the Department of Commerce joins local communities to thank business and industry for its vital contributions to South Carolina’s economy. Ambassadors for Economic Development include local leaders from the private sector representing a variety of businesses and economic development organizations committed to securing new jobs and investment in their communities.

“From day one, our administration has been committed to improving the business climate so that businesses can prosper. Efforts like workers’ comp reform, tort reform, and income tax relief have paid real dividends in our state’s ability to compete,” said Gov. Sanford. “I’d give real credit as well to the individuals who have gone above and beyond to encourage growth their respective communities. South Carolina thanks them for their efforts to create jobs and economic opportunity throughout the state.”

Burdick was humble about the honor, giving credit to the company as a whole for their efforts.

“It shouldn’t be for me,” Burdick explained. “It’s about everyone. It should be for Beneteau USA. The whole company is responsible for the continued growth we are experiencing here in Marion, SC.”

In 2007, Beneteau USA’s Marion, SC, factory has continued to excel, setting records for productions and sales for the year.
